Powassan Virus Disclaimer
Powassan testing requires the extraction of viable RNA from the tick sample. Though unlikely, ticks that have been stored for long periods may not contain viable RNA for testing. As we cannot determine the viability of RNA in a sample until AFTER the testing process is complete, we can only provide a partial refund (50%) for samples where viable RNA is not available.

3 Pathogens Tested
- General Borrelia species
- Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto (Lyme disease) or Borrelia lonestari (STARI)
- Borrelia miyamotoi (tick-borne relapsing fever)
Tick identification will be done upon receiving your tick at our laboratory. If the tick is an Amblyomma species, it will be tested for Borrelia lonestari (STARI). All other species of ticks will be tested for Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto (Lyme disease).
5 Pathogens Tested
For black-legged ticks, we will test for:
- General Borrelia species
- Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto (Lyme disease)
- Borrelia miyamotoi (tick-borne relapsing fever)
- Anaplasma phagocytophilum (human granulocytic anaplasmosis)
- Babesia odocoilei (babesiosis)
For all other tick species, we will test for:
- General Borrelia species
- Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto (Lyme disease) or Borrelia lonestari (STARI)
- Coxiella burnetti (Q-fever)
- Francisella tularensis (tularemia)
- Rickettsia rickettsii (Rocky Mountain spotted fever)
Tick identification will be done upon receiving your tick at our laboratory. Once your tick has been identified, it will be directed to the appropriate testing option for its species.
Over 7 Pathogens Tested
For black-legged ticks, we will test for:

- Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto (Lyme disease)
